Manchester United are in deep negotiations over a potential double swoop for £48m-rated duo Arturo Vidal and Daley Blind, according to reports today.
Vidal has been on United’s radar all summer with widespread speculation suggesting that the Chilean international is one of Louis van Gaal’s key targets as he looks to continue his squad overhaul at Old Trafford.
With the transfer window closing in a matter of days, the Daily Mail are reporting that United have now entered ‘serious talks’ with Juventus over a potential deal for the midfielder, with the paper suggesting it’s likely to cost United in excess of £30m to persuade the Serie A champions to sell.
Reports earlier this week claimed that United were reluctant to meet Juve’s asking price due to concerns over the 27-year-old’s troublesome knee injury. Vidal was forced to play through the pain during the closing stages of last season and he was rushed back from surgery to take part in the World Cup.
It was clear the midfielder wasn’t fit and he was substituted in every game he played for Chile over in Brazil, and United are understood to want assurances the knee injury has fully healed before they commit to any deal.
Despite denials from Ajax, the Mail claim that United are also in talks with the Dutch giants about a potential deal for utility player Daley Blind.
The 24-year-old is capable of playing at left-back, centre-back and defensive midfield so he’d certainly give van Gaal plenty of options if he was to make the move to Old Trafford this summer.
However, Ajax have insisted they won’t let the versatile Holland international leave on the cheap and it’s understood it would take a bid of around £18m to persuade them to cash in.
While Vidal would offer United the world class quality they obviously need in the center of the park, Blind’s versatility would also be a key asset for van Gaal – particularly with injuries mounting up for the new boss.

It remains to be seen whether United will be able to agree deals for the duo, but I think it would be £48m well spent as the pair would add some much-needed quality and depth to the former champions beleaguered squad.
