Falcao Open To Chelsea Move As Mourinho Eyes Late Swoop For Colombian Hitman
Radamel Falcao is open to joining Chelsea on a season-long loan deal with Jose Mourinho ready to make a move for the Colombian hitman if Fernando Torres leaves
The summer transfer window is now reaching its climax and managers are working hard to make some last minute additions to their squad, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Chelsea are linked with a move for Radamel Falcao.
Radamel Falcao is open to the idea of joining Chelsea on a season-long loan deal with Jose Mourinho ready to make a move for the Colombian hitman if Fernando Torres leaves before the end of the month, according to reports.
Torres has endured a difficult time at Stamford Bridge since his British record £50m move from Liverpool in January 2011 and he’s now considered as third choice behind Diego Costa and Didier Drogba in Mourinho’s pecking order.
Speculation this week has suggested the 30-year-old could be set to finally end his nightmare in west London with AC Milan understood to be in talks over taking the beleaguered striker to Italy.
Torres is believed to keen to start afresh in Serie A and Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani confirmed their interest in the Spaniard earlier this week:
“Our goal is to take a great striker. We will see if we achieve our aim, but Fernando Torres? He is a great striker. We are actively working.” Galliani is quoted as saying by the Telegraph.
Should Torres move to the San Siro, Mourinho is almost certain to bring in another striker before the window closes on Monday night, particularly with fears over the fitness of Diego Costa after he picked up a hamstring problem in training on Wednesday.
The Telegraph claim that the Portuguese coach has identified Falcao as a possible target after Monaco made the 28-year-old available on loan as they are keen to get his high wages off the books as part of cost cutting measures at the club.
The newspaper states that Falcao would be open to moving to Stamford Bridge, but any potential deal is likely to cost in the region of £20m including a loan fee and the strikers wages, so it’s not going to be a cheap option for the Blues.
Negotiations would be aided by the fact that Falcao and Mourinho share the same agent – Jorge Mendes – but it remains to be seen whether the Premier League side will be prepared to spend in the region of £20m on a such short-term solution.
It’s for this reason that Mourinho is probably looking at other targets with Roma’s Mattia Destro also understood to be under consideration. Reports earlier this week suggested that Chelsea had opened talks over a potential deal for the 23-year-old with Roma believed to want in the region of £20m for the Italian international.

While on paper Falcao would no doubt be the better player, financially it would make more sense to invest £20m on a buying Destro outright than simply loaning Falcao for 12 months, but we’ll have to see how things develop and what Mourinho decides to do if Torres completes his move to Milan.
