Wenger Hopeful Deal Will Be Agreed After Arsenal Make €27m Bid For Man Utd Target
Arsenal have tabled an improved offer to Sporting Lisbon worth €27 million for Manchester United target William Carvalho, according to reports today.
The summer transfer window is now reaching its climax and managers are working hard to make some last minute additions to their squad, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Arsenal have made an improved bid for a Man Utd target.
Arsenal have tabled an improved offer to Sporting Lisbon worth €27m for Manchester United target William Carvalho, according to reports.
Carvalho has been linked with a number of top clubs throughout Europe this summer after enjoying an excellent season with Sporting last year, and he was a rare shinning light for Portugal at this summers World Cup finals in Brazil.
Arsenal have been strongly linked with the 22-year-old in recent weeks with reports claiming the Gunners had a €25m (£20m) offer rejected earlier this month, with Sporting holding out for a fee nearer the midfielders €46m (£37m) buy-out clause.
It’s believed the Portuguese giants are now willing to accept just €30m (£24m) as they are desperate for a cash injection to help ease their financial concerns, and this has led to speculation that Manchester United are ready to make a move for the player as Louis van Gaal seeks an alternative to Arturo Vidal.
However, despite United’s interest, it looks like Arsenal remain in the driving seat as Goal are reporting today that Arsene Wenger has returned with an improved offer worth €27m (£21.3m) and are ironing out the complexities of the deal with investment company, Banco Espirito Santo, who own 40% of the players economic rights.
Arsenal are yet to hear a response from Sporting but the report claims the North Londoners are increasingly hopeful that a deal can be agreed before Monday nights deadline.
The news comes as ESPN are also reporting today that their sources indicate that while Carvalho could be tempted by a move to United, he would prefer a switch to the Emirates as Arsenal are able to offer Champions League football, so it does appear that Gunners fans could see another big-money signing arrive at the club over the coming 48 hours.
Wenger has made no secret of his desire to bring in a versatile defensive-minded player who can play in midfield but also fill in at centre-back if required, and Carvalho would fit the bill perfectly.

It remains to be seen how United will respond to Arsenal improved offer, but judging by the reports, it seems the player would opt for a move to London if he had the choice of either club, so a move to the capital is on the cards if a deal can be agreed between the two clubs.
