Cech Linked With Shock Switch To Chelsea’s London Rivals
Petr Cech could be set for a shock move with reports claiming that Chelsea have offered QPR the chance to sign the Cech stopper on a season-long loan deal.
Transfer deadline day has arrived and managers are desperately trying to tie-up those last minute deals, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Chelsea’s Petr Cech could be heading to QPR.
Petr Cech could be set for a shock move to Queens Park Rangers with reports claiming that Chelsea have offered their West London rivals the chance to sign the Cech international on a season-long loan deal.
The 32-year-old faces a frustrating season on the sidelines having lost his place in the Chelsea starting eleven to Thiabuat Courtois, with Jose Mourinho opting for the Belgian youngster after watching him impress while on loan at Atletico Madrid.
Cech has been strongly linked with a return to France with Paris Saint-Germain among those understood to be interested, but it’s believed Chelsea are not willing to let the keeper join a domestic or European rival.
However, the Metro claim that Chelsea chiefs are sympathetic to Cech’s desire to be playing regular first team football and have now offered him to local rivals QPR on a season-long loan deal.
The newspaper suggests that Cech was discussed during negotiations for Loic Remy over the weekend, and the experienced stopper hinted that he may be prepared to leave Stamford Bridge but only if the right offer was put on the table. He said:
‘I’ve been at the club for 10 years, the situation is now new to me,’
‘The three opening matches I could not play for the team. I have no reason to panic, pack up and leave.
‘I am a Chelsea player, where I have two more years of contract.
‘In football, nothing can be predicted in advance, nothing is ever perfect.
‘A lot of players go on representative duty, yet still many transfer clubs.
‘The offer would have to be right for everyone. I do not exclude anything (or) know the answer.’ Cech is quoted as saying by the Metro
Obviously Cech would be a sensational signing for a club like QPR, but there would be several stumbling blocks preventing any potential deal from taking place.
Firstly, a player of Cech’s stature is unlikely to want to drop down from playing in the Champions League and challenging for titles, to battling relegation, particularly as he was voted as the best goalkeeper in the Premier League last season and is still regarded as one of the best in Europe.
Even if he could be persuaded to make a short-term move to Loftus Road, it’s unlikely QPR could afford his wages demands and Harry Redknapp has just wrapped up a deal to sign Reading’s Alex McCarthy who is set to battle it out with Rob Green for the No.1 shirt.

So, unless Chelsea are willing to let Cech join a bigger club playing in Europe, then I think the Czech international is going to have to prepare himself for 12 months of playing understudy to Courtois and featuring in Cup matches.
