Liverpool are sweating on the fitness of Daniel Sturridge after the striker was forced out of England training this morning after picking up a knock.
The 25-year-old was almost certain to start for Roy Hodgson’s men in Monday’s European Championship qualifier against Switzerland in Basel.
However, it looks like Sturridge is now a doubt for the game after the official England Twitter account confirmed that he had been sent for a scan after feeling an injury in training on Friday morning.
It’s not yet known what the injury is or how serious it might be, but Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers will be eager to get an update as soon as possible.
Sturridge enjoyed his best season as a professional last year as he scored 24 goals in 33 appearances to help Liverpool push Manchester City all the way in the Premier League title race.
He is now the focal point in Liverpool’s attack following the exit of Luis Suarez, so it would be a huge blow if he was ruled out for any length of time. Should he miss the England game on Monday, Sturridge would surely be considered a major doubt to face Aston Villa at Anfield on Saturday evening.
We’ll bring you more news when the results of the scan are revealed….Here is the tweet sent out by the England account today.
