Liverpool are sweating on the fitness of Jordan Henderson after the midfielder limped out of England training on Sunday afternoon with an ankle knock, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Henderson was a nailed-on starter in Roy Hodgson’s starting eleven for tonight’s Euro 2016 qualifies away at Switzerland with the 24-year-old pencilled in to play alongside Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere in the middle of the park.
However, the Reds midfielder is now a major doubt for the game after going over heavily on his ankle during training on Sunday and left the session immediately to undergo treatment from England’s medical team.
The Liverpool Echo claim Henderson will now be assessed this morning to determine the full extent of the problem and not only find out if he’ll be able to play in Basel tonight, but also if he’s facing any period on the sidelines.
Should he be ruled out, Manchester City’s James Milner if expected to be drafted in by Hodgson but it will come as a major blow to Reds boss Brendan Rodgers. The Northern Irishman has already lost star striker Daniel Sturridge for up to three weeks with a thigh injury so it would be a big blow to lose another key player at this time.
Liverpool take on Aston Villa this weekend before welcoming Ludogrets to Anfield in the Champions League three days later so Rodgers will be hoping Henderson’s injury isn’t a serious one and he’ll be fit to face the Villains on Saturday.
