Chelsea get their 2014/15 Champions League campaign underway tomorrow night when they take on Schalke at Stamford Bridge. Here’s the team we think Jose Mourinho will select for the game:
Goalkeeper: There have been rumours that Petr Cech could be set for his first start of the season, with Mourinho considering making the experienced Czech international his ‘cup’ goalkeeper, but we still expect Courtois to be installed as No.1 with Cech likely to be selected in the domestic cups.
Defence: Chelsea have played a very settled back four so far this season but with Manchester City up next at the weekend, we wouldn’t be surprised to see Filipe Luis start ahead of Cesar Azpilicueta at left-back. Otherwise the rest of the back four should remain unchanged.
Midfield: Ramires is being tipped to start after impressing off the bench during Saturday’s 4-2 win over Swansea and this could see Cesc Fabregas move slightly further forward where he was deployed to great effect during the second half last time out.
Attack: Willian is also pushing for a recall and the Brazilian could come in for Andre Schurrle in attack, with Oscar also given a breather ahead of City. There is a chance Mourinho may decide to give Diego Costa’s hamstring a rest and start Loic Remy, but it would take a brave man to leave the free-scoring Spaniard out right now.
Here the side we think will start:
What do you think of the team? What side would you put out?
