[Video Highlights] Real Madrid 1-0 Liverpool: Benzema Sinks Weakened Reds

A weakened Liverpool side held their own against European champions Real Madrid with Karim Benzema scoring the only goal of the game at the Bernabeu.

Brendan Rodgers decided to rest several of his key players ahead of Saturday’s clash with Chelsea with the likes of Steven Gerrard, Raheem Sterling, Mario Balotelli, Dejan Lovren and Philippe Coutinho all left out of the starting eleven.

The decision looked like it could lead to a heavy defeat when Benzema was on hand to open the scoring for the hosts in the 26th minute following a superb cross from Marcelo.

However, despite Madrid enjoying the majority of the ball, they failed to find a way past Liverpool again with Gareth Bale going closest to making it 2-0 when he hit the bar, and the Merseysiders came away with a very credible 1-0 defeat.
