Man Utd Ready To Table €30m Midfielder Bid After Successful Scouting Mission
Manchester United are eyeing a €30m bid for Benfica midfielder Enzo Perez after scouts were left impressed by his latest performance against Monaco last night
The summer transfer window may be closed but managers are already thinking ahead to future transfer windows so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Man Utd are linked with Benfica’s Anzo Perez.
Manchester United are eyeing a €30m bid for Benfica midfielder Enzo Perez after scouts were left impressed by his latest performance against Monaco last night, according to reports in Portugal.
Having joined Benfica from Argentinean side Estudiantes in 2011, Perez established himself as a first team regular last term and has been virtually ever-present this season both domestically and in the Champions League.
The 28-year-old played the entire ninety minutes as Benfica beat Monaco 1-0 in their Champions League Group C clash on Tuesday night and Portuguese newspaper Abola claims that Louis van Gaal’s scouts were in the stands to watch him in action and left impressed by what they had seen.
This isn’t the first time United scouts have checked in on Perez this season and it seems they have now been persuaded to step-up their interest as reports claim that the former champions are now ready to trigger the midfielders €30m (£23.5m) buy-out clause this January.
Perez only signed a new four-year deal in the summer and has shown no sign that he wants to leave Benfica, but the chance to test himself in the Premier League may be too tempting a proposition for the Argentinean international to turn down.
Speculation suggests that van Gaal is desperate to bring in a versatile midfielder in January and has now turned his attention to Perez as an alternative to long-term targets Arturo Vidal and Kevin Strootman.
Should he end up making the move to Old Trafford, Perez would join fellow Argentinean’s Marcos Rojo and Angel Di Maria at United and would battle the likes of Ander Herrera, Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini and Daley Blind for a place in van Gaal’s starting eleven.

Perez would certainly add a bit of bite to the United midfield if he was to make the move in January but he’s also a fine passer and chips in with the odd goal so he could be the all-round midfielder van Gaal’s been looking for, but it remains to be seen whether the Dutchman will be able to lure him from Benfica this winter.
