Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has promised fans he’s working hard to get himself fit after being sent to Los Angeles to aid his recovery from a thigh injury.
Sturridge has played just three games for Liverpool this season after seeing his campaign savaged by a series of injury problems.
The striker initially missed six weeks after picking up a thigh injury while away with the England squad at the start of September before pulling his calf on the eve of his comeback in mid-October.
Then, just as it looked like he was set to finally return to action last month, Sturridge suffered yet another thigh injury in training which will keep him on the sidelines until the New Year.
Boss Brendan Rodgers has previously hinted that the club are looking deeper into the root cause of the 25-year-old’s problems as the latest injury is the strikers ninth separate thigh injury he’s sustained during his career so far.
The Daily Mail are reporting that Sturridge has now been sent to America for a fortnight to undergo some warm weather training in Los Angeles in a bid to boost his recovery process.
Rodgers hinted as much at his press conference on Thursday afternoon after telling reporters the player had ‘gone away’ to work on his rehabilitation:
‘He has gone away to get some specific work in with some of our staff and he is coming along well,’ said Rodgers.
Sturridge has now uploaded a message to his Instagram account telling fans not to worry about him as he’s working hard to regain full fitness and is confident he’ll be back stronger than ever.
Liverpool will certainly hope the striker returns in top form as they’ve sorely missed him this season, with Mario Balotelli failing to settle following his move from AC Milan in the summer.
Rickie Lambert is finally starting to find his feet with two goals in his last four games but Balotelli is yet to get off the mark in the Premier League and has managed just one goal all season – a strike against Ludogorets in the Champions League – so the Reds will be desperate for Sturridge to get back on the pitch as soon as possible.
