FIFA Agent Claims Man Utd Will Sign €40m Midfielder In January
Man Utd have agreed a €40m deal to sign Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman next month and are now just ‘one step’ away from sealing the Dutchman’s signature
With the January transfer window just around the corner managers are getting ready to strengthen their squads ahead of the second half of the season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, have Manchester United sealed a deal for Kevin Strootman?
Manchester United have agreed a €40m deal to sign Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman next month and are now just ‘one step’ away from sealing the Dutchman’s signature, according to a FIFA agent.
Strootman has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford and speculation over a move to United intensified following the arrival of Louis van Gaal as boss in the summer.
The Dutchman is believed to be a huge fan of the 24-year-old’s with reports earlier this month suggesting that the former Holland boss was putting together a lucrative package to try and lure his compatriot to United this winter.
Roma have publicly insisted that Strootman wasn’t for sale at any price, however, that’s not the case according to Matteo Materazzi, who claims that United have already agreed to pay the Italians €40m (£32m) for the midfielders signature next month.
Materazzi – brother of former Inter Milan defender Marco – is a FIFA agent and suggests that United are just ‘one step away’ from sealing the deal, with personal terms believed to be the only stumbling block left to overcome.
“Manchester are one step away from Kevin Strootman.
“The British club will pay €40m [£32m] into the coffers of the Giallorossi [Roma].” Materazzi is quoted as saying by the Daily Star
Strootman only joined Roma from PSV 18 months ago but the 24-year-old has seen his time in Italy plagued by a serious knee injury that he picked up in March which subsequently ruled him out of the World Cup.
However, he’s now returned to full fitness and it appears United are ready to push forward with a big-money deal to bring the midfielder to Old Trafford and it would certainly be a major coup if they could pull it off.
Louis van Gaal has had to deal with a whole host of injury problems during his first few months at United with his options in midfield and defence limited by a number of key players being sidelined, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Dutch boss brought in reinforcements in January and Strootman would be a significant addition to the squad.

It’s difficult to know how much truth there is behind Materazzi’s claims or whether he has any ‘inside knowledge’, but with the January window set to open in a weeks time, we might not have to wait too much longer to find out.
