Liverpool dropped two vital points after letting slip a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Leicester City at Anfield this afternoon.

The hosts opened the scoring in fortuitous circumstances when Wes Morgan was adjudged to have handled in the area despite the ball hitting his face. Gerrard stepped up and made no mistake from the spot to make it 1-0.

The three points looked to be assured when Gerrard then made it 2-0, again from the spot, after Danny Simpson did handle in the area after some good work from Philippe Coutinho.

However, Leicester pulled one back in the 58th minute when David Nugent fired home from the edge of the area and it was 2-2 just minutes later when Jeffrey Schlupp smashed home a left-footed effort from 20 yards.

Both sides could have won it but it finished 2-2 and Liverpool remain ninth in the Premier League table but are not seven points adrift of fourth-placed Southampton.
