Liverpool Table Bids Worth £13m As Rodgers Eyes Double Swoop
Liverpool have wasted no time in trying to get their January business concluded with Brendan Rodgers tabling bids worth £13m for Xherdan Shaqiri and Neto
With the January transfer now open for business, managers are working hard to strengthen their squads ahead of the second half of the season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Liverpool are linked with a double swoop….
Liverpool have wasted no time in trying to get their January transfer business concluded with reports today claiming that Brendan Rodgers has tabled bids worth £13m for winger Xherdan Shaqiri and goalkeeper Neto.
The Reds have endured a frustrating first half to the season and Rodgers is expected to use the winter window to spice up his squad as he looks to try and qualify for the Champions League and possibly win a trophy during the second half of the campaign.
The Mirror claim that top of his wish-list is a new goalkeeper to replace out-of-favour Simon Mignolet with the Northern Irishman supposedly tabling a formal offer in the region of £3m for Fiorentina stopper Neto.
The Brazilian international has been strongly linked with a move to Anfield in recent months after telling his current club he won’t be signing a new deal and with his contract expiring in the summer, Fiorentina may be forced to cash in now rather than risk losing the 25-year-old for nothing in six months time.
Mignolet has certainly been struggling this season and was axed from the first team last month before Rodgers had to recall the beleaguered Belgian after Brad Jones picked up a thigh injury, so I’d certainly expect Liverpool to bring in a new keeper this month and it appears Neto is firmly on their radar.
The Merseysiders are also hoping to strengthen their attacking options after only managing to score 28 goals in their 20 league games so far this campaign, and the Mirror suggest that they have made a firm bid worth in the region of £10m for Bayern Munich winger Shaqiri.
The Swiss international is expected to leave the Allianz Arena this month after failing to establish himself as a regular under Pep Guardiola but Liverpool will face stiff competition from Inter Milan and Juventus, with the Italian giants also keen on luring him to Serie A.
Shaqiri proved his quality at the World Cup and was superb for FC Basel before moving to Germany, so I think he’d be an excellent addition for £10m if Liverpool were able to win the race for his signature.
The 23-year-old can play anywhere across the front three positions and can even play as a central striker, so he’d give Rodgers plenty of options in attack if he did make the move to Anfield.

We’ll have to wait and see how these two potential deals pan out but I think it would be £13m well spent if Liverpool were able to get deals for Neto and Shaqiri over the line this month.
