Manchester United Table €45m Bid For Top Arsenal Target

Manchester United have made a firm offer for Arsenal target Mats Hummels despite Borussia Dortmund insisting the centre-back won’t be sold this month.

With the January transfer now open for business, managers are working hard to strengthen their squads ahead of the second half of the season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Man Utd make their move for Arsenal target Mats Hummels….

Manchester United have made a firm offer for Arsenal target Mats Hummels despite Borussia Dortmund insisting the centre-back won’t be sold this month, according to reports.

Hummel’s future at the Westfalenstadion has been thrown into doubt in recent months after Dortmund’s terrible start to the season that sees them currently sit in the bottom three and understandably he’s attracting interest from a number of top European clubs.

Arsenal and Manchester United have been strongly linked with a move for the German international with both Arsene Wenger and Louis van Gaal making him a top target as they look to strengthen their defences this winter, and the duo were boosted in their pursuits when Hummels blasted the team as ‘pathetic’ in a recent interview.

However, it looks as though United may have stolen a march on the Gunners as the Daily Star are citing reports coming out of Italy from journalist Gianluigi Longari who claims the Red Devils have now made a formal bid for the defender.

The journalist doesn’t disclose what United’s offer is meant to be but the newspaper suggests it’s in the region of €45m (£35m), which if true would certainly make Dortmund sit up and take notice.

The former Bundesliga champions have insisted that their skipper wont be sold in January as he’s integral to their efforts to turn their flagging season around, but they may just be tempted to cash-in if United have tabled a €45m bid.

It remains to be seen how Arsenal will respond to this news but I personally don’t see Arsene Wenger splashing out over £30m on a defender. The Gunners have been strongly linked with a move for French centre-back Loic Perrin in recent days so perhaps Wenger has turned to the Saint-Etienne man as an alternative to the more expensive Hummels.

If that’s the case, then United will be in the clear to try and lure the 25-year-old to Old Trafford and he’d be an excellent addition to van Gaal’s squad if they were to be successful.
