Manchester United have been handed a timely boost with a star defender confirming he’ll be back in action soon despite having surgery. Find out more here…
Manchester United defender Rafael da Silva has uploaded a photo of himself smiling on his hospital bed after undergoing surgery on a fractured cheekbone.
Rafael was forced off during United’s 2-0 win over Yeovil Town in the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon after suffering a facial injury while contesting a high ball in the first half.
The Brazilian was substituted at the break and it looked as though he was facing another spell on the sidelines as Louis van Gaal confirmed after the game that the full-back had fractured his cheekbone.
However, the 24-year-old underwent surgery on Tuesday evening to repair the damage and he took to Instagram shortly after to upload a ‘selfie’ of him smiling on his hospital bed.
It looks as though he’ll be back in action soon enough as Rafael confirmed to his followers that the operation was a success and he’ll be back in training on Friday – although he will be forced to wear a protective mask.
His message on Instagram said:
‘Operation was perfect back training normal with mask on Friday very happy. Thanks god for everything.’
The news will be a welcome boost to van Gaal as he’s had to deal will his fair share of injuries during the first half of the season and Rafael had only recently returned from a two month lay-off himself, so it would have been a bitter blow if he was ruled out again.
