Arsenal & Man Utd Could Miss Out As Blue’s Line-Up Move For €25m Target
Chelsea are eyeing-up a sensational swap deal that would see the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United miss out on €25m target Marco Reus, according to reports
With the January transfer set to open for business, managers are getting ready to strengthen their squads ahead of the second half of the season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Chelsea are linked with Marco Reus….
Chelsea are eyeing-up a sensational swap deal that would see the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United miss out on €25m target Marco Reus, according to reports.
Reus has cemented himself as one of the best attackers in Europe after two excellent seasons at Dortmund, where the winger has scored 47 goals in 99 appearances after making a move from Borussia Mönchengladbach back in 2012.
His future at the Westfalenstadion is uncertain due to a buy-out clause in his contract which kicks in next summer that will allow him to leave for just €25m (£20m) – which represents an absolute bargain in today’s over inflated market for a player of his quality.
Arsenal and Manchester United have been strongly linked with a move for the 25-year-old in recent months with reports suggesting that the duo have already made it clear to Dortmund that they are prepared to meet the attackers buy-out fee this summer.
However, it appears Chelsea are ready to throw a spanner in the works as the Express are reporting that Jose Mourinho is plotting a stunning swap deal that would see Reus move to Stamford Bridge with Andre Schurrle heading in the opposite direction.
The newspaper suggests that Schurrle is disappointed at the lack of game-time he’s been getting this season and may be open to a move, with Wolfsburg reportedly willing to pay around £23m for his services.
But Mourinho has other plans for the 24-year-old as the Express claim he is planning to offer Schurrle to Dortmund in a straight swap for Reus this month and is confident the deal may appeal to the former Bundesliga champions.
It remains to be seen whether that will be the case but selling Reus to Chelsea now would ensure he doesn’t end up at domestic rivals Bayern Munich while they’d also be getting a ready-made replacement in Schurrle.
If Chelsea could somehow pull this swap deal off, and that’s a big ‘if’, then it would be a major coup as Reus is one of the best attackers in Europe and he would form a deadly front-line alongside the likes of Eden Hazard and Diego Costa at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho would also be getting one over his rivals Arsene Wenger and Louis van Gaal as the pair would no doubt love to land Reus when his clause activates in the summer, so it will be interesting to see how all of this pans out over the next couple of weeks.
If I was a betting man, I’d back Reus staying at Dortmund until the end of the season when he’ll have the pick of all the top European clubs to choose from. Let’s hope he opts for an English club as it would be great to see him in the Premier League.
