Liverpool Set To Table Late £6.5m Bid For Tottenham Target
Liverpool are set to make a dramatic late £6.5m bid to try and tempt West Ham into selling Tottenham target Winston Reid before the transfer window closes
Transfer deadline day is here and managers are frantically trying to tie-up those late deals to strengthen their squads ahead of the second half of the season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Liverpool are linked with Winston Reid….
Liverpool are set to make a dramatic late £6.5m bid to try and tempt West Ham into selling Tottenham target Winston Reid before the transfer window closes this evening, according to reports.
Reid is out of contract at the end of the season and with no sign of an extension being signed any time soon, he’s been strongly linked with a move away from Upton Park during the winter window.
Sam Allardyce has maintained that he would keep hold of the New Zealand international even if it meant losing him for nothing in the summer as the Hammers are still in the fight to finish in the top six this campaign.
Reports over the weekend claimed that Reid was set to join Tottenham at the end of the season after supposedly agreeing terms over a £60,000-a-week deal to move to White Hart Lane on a free transfer.
However, it looks like that deal could be in jeopardy as the Mirror are now reporting that Liverpool will make a late move for the 26-year-old today by tempting West Ham with a £6.5m offer to sell the centre-back before tonight’s 11pm deadline.
That sort of money could be very tempting for the West Londoners as it’s a huge sum they’d miss out on if they held on to Reid and let him join Spurs for nothing in just five months time.
If they do decide to cash-in, the newspaper claims that Allardyce will move for former Tottenham star Vedran Corluka with Spartak Moscow willing to sell the Croatian international for £4.5m.
With Brendan Rodgers now playing three at the back, it looks like he’s on the look-out for another central defender with Dejan Lovren struggling to justify his big-money move to Anfield last summer. Rodgers has been forced to move midfielder Emra Can back into defence in recent weeks so it would make sense for the Reds to bring in another option at the back.

Reid would be an excellent signing for Liverpool as he’s approaching his peak years and has plenty of Premier League experience under his belt, so he wouldn’t take any time to adjust to life in England, but we’ll have to wait and see whether they can persuade West Ham to sell before the window slams shut.
