Man Utd Step Up Interest In £34m Liverpool Target Ahead Of Summer Swoop
Manchester United have sent scouts to watch £34m-rated Benfica winger Eduardo Salvio and hope to beat the likes of Liverpool to his signature this summer
The January transfer window is now closed but that won’t stop the newspapers from speculating ahead of the summer so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Man Utd are linked with Liverpool target Eduardo Salvio….
Manchester United have sent scouts to watch £34m-rated Benfica winger Eduardo Salvio and hope to beat the likes of Liverpool to his signature this summer, according to reports.
Salvio has been in superb form for Benfica since securing a permanent move from Atletico Madrid in 2012 and despite suffering a serious knee injury during his time in Portugal, he’s still managed to score 33 goals and assist 26 others in 131 appearances for the club.
His impressive displays have caught the eye of clubs here in the Premier League with both Manchester United and Liverpool understood to be keeping a close eye on his progress.
However, it appears United are stepping up their pursuit with the Daily Star reporting that Louis van Gaal sent his scouts to watch the 24-year-old in action during Benfica’s 3-0 win over Vitoria Setubal on Wednesday night, and although he only played the final half hour, it’s believed to have been the latest trip of many that have left United impressed.
The newspaper suggests that United are now ready to take advantage of new work permit rules to bring the attacker to England this summer. New guidelines are expected to be introduced at the end of the season which state that players who cost in excess of £10m will no longer require a work permit.
Salvio has only been capped by Argentina five times so under the current rules he may have struggled to gain a work permit. However, he’s reportedly valued at £34m so he’ll easily qualify under the new legislation this summer and it appears United are ready to take advantage.

However, it remains to be seen whether the 20-time Premier League champions will be able to agree a deal with Benfica as the Portuguese giants are likely to do all they can to hang on to the attacker.
Liverpool could also provide fierce competition for Salvio’s signature if Brendan Rodgers decides to formalise his interest this summer, so there’s still a long way to go before the player will be rocking up at Old Trafford.
