Chelsea Star Set To Undergo Surgery & Will Miss Post-Season Tour
Chelsea playmaker Cesc Fabregas has been ruled out of the clubs post-season tour as he’s due to undergo surgery on his nose, according to the Telegraph.
Chelsea playmaker Cesc Fabregas has been ruled out of the clubs post-season tour as he’s due to undergo surgery on his nose, according to the Telegraph.
Fabregas was forced to wear a protective mask during Chelsea final few games of the season after having his nose broken by Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam.
The midfielder has already had initial surgery when the injury first happened but it appears he’s set to undergo a further operation to correct the problem.
Vicente Del Bosque named Fabregas is his squad for their upcoming international double-header and the Spain boss revealed at his press conference earlier today that the former Barcelona playmaker is set to under the knife.
The long-serving coach claims that Fabregas has guaranteed that he’ll be fit by June 1, meaning he’ll be ready to take part in upcoming games against Costa Rica and Belarus.
However, the Telegraph claim that with Fabregas set for surgery and included in the Spain squad, the player will miss Chelsea’s post season tour of Thailand and Australia.
Del Bosque told reporters today:
“We had a problem with Cesc, who is going to have an operation on his nose,” said Del Bosque.
“We have included him like (Sergio) Ramos because they have guaranteed us they will be ready for June 1.”
The Blues take on Thailand All Stars on Saturday before facing Sydney FC in Australia on June 2, but Jose Mourinho will have to make-do without the services of Fabregas.
However, the good news is that Diego Costa has been left out by Del Bosque so will therefore travel with the Chelsea squad on their post-season trip.
Costa only recently returned from a spell on the sidelines with a troublesome hamstring injury so it seems the Spain boss was hesitant to include him after featuring in just two games during the run-in.
Del Bosque continued:
“It is a specific case. He [Costa] has played two games, but not 90 minutes.
“He has just overcome some muscular problems and we didn’t think he was in the best condition for a key game against Belarus, so we have preferred players whose fitness isn’t in doubt.”
Costa has suffered recurring hamstring problems all season so I’m sure Mourinho was pleased to see him left out by his country.
