Liverpool To Table Improved Offer After Spurs Have Bid Accepted For Key Target

Liverpool are ready to table an improved offer for Ben Davies after learning that Tottenham Hotpsur have had a £10m offer accepted by Swansea City, according to the Telegraph.
As we reported on Wednesday morning, Liverpool’s opening £8m bid was rejected by the Swans with the Welsh outfit holding out for a fee nearer £12m for the 21-year-old defender.
Reports suggested that Tottenham had cooled their initial interest after learning of Swansea’s asking price, but it appears the north Londoners have since renewed talks as the Telegraph claim that a £10m deal has now been agreed between the two clubs.
However, the newspaper states that Brendan Rodgers is now set to table a revised second offer and although no fee is mentioned in this report, you’d expect the Merseysiders will match what Spurs are offering then hope to try and persuade the player to opt for a move to Anfield over White Hart Lane.
Obviously Liverpool would be confident of doing so as they are able to offer Champions League football and the Telegraph claim that Davies is aware of their interest and is keen to hold talks with the club if they can agree a fee with Swansea.
So although Spurs are currently in the driving seat as they have an agreement in place, things could change very quickly if the Reds match their terms and are given permission to discuss personal terms with the Welsh international.
Rodgers is on the look-out for a new left-back to compete with Jose Enrique and Jon Flanagan next season while new Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is also keen on bringing in competition for Danny Rose, and Davies has emerged as a key target for both clubs.
The 21-year-old has excelled over the past two seasons since breaking into the first team and his Premier League experience will no doubt be hugely appealing to both Spurs and Liverpool.

With doubts hanging over his future at the Liberty Stadium, Davies could be pulled from Garry Monk’s squad for their friendly against Chivas Guadalajara in Milwaukee tonight, but it remains to be seen who he’ll be lining-up for come the opening weekend in a months time.
