Paul Merson Offers His Prediction Ahead Of Liverpool’s Clash With Swansea

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has made his prediction ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Swansea City on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds head to Wales just two days after their Europa League semi final first leg defeat at Villarreal and with the huge return leg at Anfield to think about, Jurgen Klopp is expected to make wholesale changes to his starting eleven.

Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Newcastle last weekend has all-but ended any slim hopes of finishing in the top four this season so the Merseysiders have little left to play for in the league.

Swansea are already safe from relegation so they too are just playing for pride during the closing stages of the campaign, and Merson believes this will result in an open game of football that will ultimately end in an entertaining 2-2 draw.

Writing in his column for Sky Sports, he said:

Swansea v Liverpool (Sunday, midday)

Liverpool don’t need this game. Swansea were atrocious against Leicester last week and really Liverpool should win 5-0. Jurgen Klopp has a big game against Villarreal to prepare for and it’s bigger than this.

Swansea will have a go and Liverpool, whoever they put out, will have a go as well. They’re not going to go there and bore everyone to death, they’ll go out and enjoy themselves.

Swansea have got Gylfi Sigurdsson, who can put the ball on a sixpence, and Liverpool aren’t exactly going to be working on their set-pieces so I’ll also go Ashley Williams first goalscorer as well.

PAUL PREDICTS: 2-2

We’ll have to wait and see whether Merson’s prediction proves accurate but a draw for Liverpool would mean very little in terms of where they’ll finish in the table while a point for the Swans would see them move level with eleventh-placed Everton.
