Liverpool entertain rivals Manchester United at Anfield this evening with both sides desperate to win the first north-west derby of the new Premier League season.

Liverpool will hand a late fitness test to midfielder Adam Lallana as he remains a major doubt due to a groin injury that kept him out of England’s recent World Cup qualifiers.

Georginio Wijnaldum is also likely to miss out after suffering a hamstring injury while on international duty with Holland last week so Emre Can is set for a recall to the starting eleven.

However, Nathaniel Clyne is expected to start at right-back after recovering from a minor knee injury while Dejan Lovren has also been passed fit after a groin problem.

Man Utd head to Anfield with virtually a fully-fit squad to choose from after Luke Shaw recovered from a groin strain that’s kept him out for the last four matches.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan is also available for selection after overcoming a niggling thigh problem which has kept him out since the Manchester derby over a month ago.

Defender Phil Jones is the only absentee as he continues to nurse a knee injury while Wayne Rooney could once again find himself on the bench after being left out for both club and country recently.
