Arsenal, Chelsea & Man Utd Set For Transfer Battle As £40m Star Eyes Move

Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have been boosted in their pursuit of Marco Asensio after the £40m-rated midfielder decided to quit Real Madrid

The January transfer window is now closed but we can still look at deals that failed to get across the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, more on the future of Marco Asensio…

Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have been boosted in their pursuit of Marco Asensio after the £40m-rated midfielder decided to quit Real Madrid this summer, according to a report in the Express.

Asensio has emerged as one of the hottest properties in European football since breaking in to the Madrid first team squad this season having joined the clubs  youth ranks from Mallorca in 2014.

The 21-year-old scored 7 goals during the first half of the season but has found first team football harder to come by in recent weeks with the youngster playing just 6 minutes in Madrid’s last 6 La Liga fixtures while he’s started just two of their last 18 games in all competitions.

It appears the lack of playing time has prompted Asensio to consider his future as the Express are citing a report coming from Spanish outlet Diario Gol that claims the midfielder is now ready to leave Madrid this summer.

Asensio’s potential has already caught the attention of several Premier League clubs with the newspaper suggesting that Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are all vying for his signature.

The trio have now been alerted to the news that Asensio is eyeing a move away from the Bernabeu but the Express state that Madrid have already made it clear they want £40m for the youngster.

The Euro giants are under no pressure to sell as the Spanish international is under contract until 2022 so the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and United are going to have to dig deep if they want to land the talented midfielder.

A fee of £40m may seem steep for a player that’s only recently broken in to the first team but Asensio is one of the best young players in Europe and talent like that doesn’t come cheap in today’s market.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but Arsenal, Chelsea and United could all afford to meet Madrid’s reported asking price if they really wanted to, and Asensio could be viewed as a good long-term investment given his age and potential.

The youngster is predominantly a central midfielder but he can also play out on the wing and he’s known for his pace and shooting ability, so I think he’d be an exciting signing if he ends up coming to the Premier League this summer.
