Jurgen Klopp has given Liverpoolfc.com an update on Sadio Mane after the attacker limped out of Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Everton this afternoon.

Mane was showing some excellent form once again today after scoring a fine opening goal in the eighth minute as the Reds went in to half time leading 2-1 thanks to another superb effort from Philippe Coutinho.

However, the Senegal international needed treatment shortly after the break after being caught by Toffees defender Leighton Baines and Mane appeared to turn his ankle and twist his knee as he landed awkwardly following the collision.

The Liverpool No.19 was eventually replaced by Divock Origi and the hosts put the setback behind them to record another victory over their Merseyside rivals with the Belgian striker securing a 3-1 win in the 60th minute.

Speaking after the victory, Klopp gave an update on Mane’s fitness to the clubs official website and immediately ruled him out of Wednesday’s game against Bournemouth.

The Liverpool boss is praying the injury isn’t serious but admitted that it didn’t look like a straightforward knock or muscle strain, so he’s fearing the attacker may have damaged something more serious.

Klopp refused to put any timescale on Mane’s recovery but admitted the attacker didn’t look comfortable in the dressing room after the game. He told Liverpoolfc.com:

“Today we played a really good game. Nearly everything was perfect, we win it, the performance was good [but] then we lose Sadio Mane. When I saw him in the dressing room, it didn’t look like he’ll be ready for Wednesday,”

“We will see, hopefully it’s not that serious, but of course it’s not nothing and that makes our life not easier, I would say.”

“I don’t know exactly [what the injury is], I don’t want to speculate now.

“Obviously he has pain and it didn’t look like it’s only a knock or a muscle or something, but we have to wait.

“When I came in I was looking for him immediately and I saw him on the bed. He’d already had treatment, and it didn’t look like he felt really comfortable.”

We’ll have to wait for more news when it comes out but from seeing the incident on television, I wouldn’t be surprised if Mane is ruled out for at least a couple of weeks.

That would come as a huge blow to the Reds as they have some important games coming up against Bournemouth, Stoke, West Brom and Crystal Palace in what’s going to be a busy April month.
