Angry Star Tells Agent To Secure Move As Liverpool Prepare £70m+ Offer

Naby Keita has instructed his agents to secure a move as Liverpool prepare to test RB Leipzig’s resolve with an offer worth in excess of £70m

Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, the latest on Liverpool’s pursuit of Naby Keita…

Naby Keita has instructed his agents to secure a move this summer as Liverpool prepare to test RB Leipzig’s resolve with an offer worth in excess of £70m for the midfielder, according to the Mirror.

Jurgen Klopp has been chasing Keita all summer after identifying him as one of his prime targets but Liverpool have found it difficult to get a fee agreed with a stubborn Leipzig side.

The German outfit publicly insist they are not prepared to sell the midfielder at any price after rejecting two formal offers from Liverpool – reportedly worth £57m and £66m [via the Express].

There were rumours circulating in the media in recent days that the Merseysiders may shelve their pursuit until next summer when a £48m buyout clause will become active in Keita’s contract.

However, developments over the past 24 hours appear to have changed things following Leipzig’s sporting director Ralf Rangnick’s controversial comments which saw him claim that a whole village in Guinea was demanding Keita joins Liverpool.

Rangnick’s attempts to explain that comment have arguably made the situation even worse after he was quotes by the Guardian as saying today:

“Behind many players with an African background, and I’ve met a lot of them, there is a clan and sometimes a whole village, that lives from the help of one football player. And it’s the case that there are people behind Naby, that demand his transfer.”

The Mirror claim that Keita has been left angered by these comments and has instructed his representatives to do all they can to force a move this summer, and Liverpool haven’t given up hope of getting a deal agreed.

The newspaper says the Reds are now ready to make a last ditch attempt to sign Keita and will test Leipzig’s resolve with a final offer worth at least £70m over the coming days.

It remains to be seen whether it will be enough to persuade the Bundesliga outfit to sell but it’s always difficult to keep hold of an unhappy player so I think Liverpool will get a deal agreed in the end.

If so, Keita would be a sensational signing for Klopp as the Guinea international has developed in to one of the best central midfielders in Europe over the past couple of years and I think he’d be a huge success in the Premier League.
