Liverpool have a fitness headache ahead of their Champions League group stage opener with Sevilla after Mohamed Salah was sent home from training today.

The Merseysiders return to Europe’s elite competition when they welcome Sevilla to Anfield on Wednesday night but it looks like they could be without one of their key men.

Jurgen Klopp put his squad through their paces at Melwood this afternoon but the Reds confirmed on Liverpoolfc.com that Salah was unable to take part after being sent home due to illness.

The Egyptian international reported to the clubs training base but was sent home as a precaution as Liverpool would have been keen for the attacker not to spread his bug throughout the rest of the squad.

While I’m sure Klopp will give Salah every chance to prove his fitness, the 25-year-old will now be considered as a major doubt for tomorrow’s visit of Sevilla.

The £37m summer signing would be a huge miss for Liverpool if he’s ruled out as Salah has enjoyed an excellent start to life at Anfield following his move from AS Roma.

The attacker has chipped in with three goals in his opening six matches for the Reds and he was rewarded with the Liverpool Player of the Month for August so I’m sure Klopp will be desperate to have him available for selection tomorrow.

Otherwise, the German coach has a relatively healthy squad at his disposal with Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne the only other major injury absentees.
