Liverpool endured something of a Champions League hangover after being held to a 1-1 draw by Burnley at Anfield this afternoon.

The hosts fell behind midway through the first half when Scott Arfield slotted home from 18 yards following some sloppy defending to give Burnley a shock lead in the 27th minute.

Liverpool equalised almost immediately as Mohamed Salah maintained his excellent goal-scoring form with another fine finish from the edge of the area to make it 1-1 in the 30th minute.

Jurgen Klopp’s men pushed to find a winner and went close when substitute Dominic Soloanke hit the crossbar late on after Salah was denied a penalty claim but they couldn’t find a way through.

The result leaves Liverpool on eight points from their opening five Premier League games with the Merseysiders currently sitting seventh in the table.
