Robin Van Persie scored a superb hat-trick as Arsenal battered Wigan at the Emirates, and the visitors were lucky to keep the scores down to just 3-0. Van Persie opened the scoring firing home after being put through by Song. The Gunners continued to hammer the Wigan goal but had to wait until after half-time to get the second, Van Persie latching on to a superb pass from Fabregas to volley home at the far post.
The Dutchman was then gifted the chance to secure his hat-trick after Fabregas was brought down in the area by Caldwell, who was sent off. However he spurned the opportunity, blasting his spot-kick high over the bar.
