Liverpool & Man Utd Ready To Launch Swoops After £44m Star Confirms He Wants Move

Liverpool and Manchester United have been placed on red alert after Mateo Kovacic confirmed he wants to leave Real Madrid in search of regular football

The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd and Liverpool are linked with Mateo Kovacic…

Liverpool and Manchester United have been placed on red alert after Mateo Kovacic confirmed he wants to leave Real Madrid in search of regular football, according to TeamTalk.

Kovacic made his name as a youngster at Dinamo Zagreb after coming through their youth ranks and enhanced his reputation as a promising midfielder during a two-year stint at Inter Milan before joining Madrid in 2015. However, his time at the Bernabeu hasn’t gone according to plan as he’s struggled to hold down a regular place over the past three years.

The Croatian international started just 10 La Liga games last season – completing the ninety minutes just 4 times – and his first team chances don’t look any brighter under new boss Julen Lopetegui so understandably Kovacic has been linked with a move away this summer.

The 24-year-old has spoken out for the first time about his situation and admitted that he’s not happy sitting on the bench at the Bernabeu and confirmed he’s ready to leave Madrid in search of first team football this summer.

Kovacic is quoted by TeamTalk as saying:

“I want to play more and the best thing is to leave Madrid.

“I love football and being on the pitch. I want the opportunity to be a starter on another team. If I do not play, I’m not happy.”

Kovacic’s comments have alerted clubs here in the Premier League as TeamTalk claim that Manchester United and Liverpool are ready to launch moves to sign Kovacic while Juventus are also in the race to sign the midfielder.

Jurgen Klopp has already brought in Naby Keita and Fabinho this summer but the Liverpool boss could be in the market for further midfield reinforcements following Emre Can’s move to Juventus and it seems Kovacic is on his radar.

However, the report says Jose Mourinho is also ready to launch a move for the Madrid man as he looks to build a squad capable of competing with Manchester City for the title next season having finished 19 points adrift of their rivals.

TeamTalk says Kovacic has a £44m release clause in his contract so Liverpool and United would simply need to meet that figure if they wanted to bypass negotiations with Madrid but any potential move would have to wait until after the midfielder has played for Croatia at the World Cup.
