£21m Bid Submitted: Liverpool In Battle With Everton To Sign South American Star

Liverpool are facing a fresh battle to sign Yerry Mina this summer after Everton tabled an opening £21m bid to sign the Barcelona centre-back

The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Everton have tried to hijack Liverpool’s move for Yerry Mina…..

Liverpool are facing a fresh battle to sign Yerry Mina this summer after Everton tabled an opening £21m bid to sign the Barcelona centre-back, according to Goal via TeamTalk.

Mina established himself as one of the hottest young defenders in world football during his time in Brazil with Palmeiras before eaning a £10.5m move to Barcelona back in January but his time at the Nou Camp hasn’t gone to plan so far as he’s struggled to force his way in to the first team set-up.

The 23-year-old started just 2 games in all competitions during the second half of last season with Ernesto Valverde opting to go with Gerard Pique and Samuel Umtiti as his first choice defensive pairing as Barca went on to lift the La Liga title.

Speculation initially suggested that the Catalans were hoping to send Mina out on loan in order to get some first team experience under his belt in order to acclimatise to European football and a move to Fenerbahce looked to be on the cards.

TeamTalk then reported earlier this week that Liverpool were trying to lure Mina to England after registering their interest in signing the Colombian international this summer.

Jurgen Klopp is looking to strengthen his squad in order to make Liverpool contenders for major honours next season and Mina could be viewed as a long-term partner for Virgil van Dijk at Anfield.

However, the Reds will face fresh competition as TeamTalk are now citing a report from Goal that claims Everton are trying to hijack Liverpool’s move after submitting an opening offer worth around £21m for Mina’s signature.

The report says talks between Everton and Barcelona have already taken place and the Catalans are open to the idea of selling the South American star as long as a buy-back option is included in any deal.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but if Liverpool are prepared to match Everton’s offer then Klopp should be confident of winning the race to sign Mina as they’re able to offer Champions League football and the chance to compete for trophies.
