Swansea vs Arsenal: Team News, Likely line-up & Predicted Score

By on January 13, 2012

Liberty Stadium Swansea

Arsenal travel to Wales to take on Swansea at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday looking to get back to winning ways in the League after a late 2-1 loss to Fulham last time out.

This will be a tough game for the Gunners as Swansea give very little away at home. Only Manchester United have collected all three points against them at the Liberty, so make no mistake this will be difficult for us despite Swansea being one of the promoted sides.

Team News

Arsene Wenger is due to give his press conference shortly, so he may have some surprise news for us regarding injuries. But for the purposes of this match preview, i’ll go on the information we have at hand.

All eyes will be on whether Thierry Henry starts this one following his sensational match winning goal against Leeds on Monday. I personally think Arsene Wenger will leave him on the bench and continue with Arshavin on the left, but i would love to see Thierry given a start.

Wenger should be able to call upon the services of Johan Djourou, who returns after suspension. Djourou also had a slight groin injury but it looks like he’ll be fit to start. I wouldn’t normally hail the return of Djourou as a positive, such is his questionable form at right back, but needs must and we have very little options at the back.

Thomas Vermaelen and Kieran Gibbs could be back to face United next weekend, but are short for this match. Several players are still missing, although Jack Wilshere and Bacary Sagna could return within the next few weeks.

Marouanne Chamakh and Gervinho are now both away at the African Cup of Nations, while Robin van Persie, Theo Walcott and Per Meresacker should all return to the starting line-up. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain put in another encouraging display against Leeds and i hope Arsene rewards him with a substitute appearance this weekend.

Predicted Score

On paper Arsenal should walk past Swansea, but as we know football doesn’t work like that. The Swans are a tough side but they should be good opposition for Arsenal as they play good football on the floor, which should suit us and it’s for this reason i think we’ll sneak a win here. Swansea 1-2 Arsenal.

I’m gonna go for a Swansea win here (2-1)… Henry as a super sub to get Arsenal’s goal. Graham and Sinclair for Swansea… Just my opinion.

Maybe I was wrong about the scoreline and scorers, but I knew Swansea were going to win… Playing two centre backs as full backs is always going to be bad news when you have Sinclair and Dyer running at you. Good game!

A 2-1 win for Swansea maybe even 2-0 since Vorm is a master at keeping clean sheets.

Its going to be an amazing game

HAHAHAHA you think arsenal are going to get Hazard, that’s a bad joke, Liverpool get first dibs from Lille for selling Joe Cole, and if that doesn’t work out it will be Chelsea or Man U. well before arsenal

If Arsenal try to weave their way thru a packed defence instead of shooting,it’s going to be a repeat of Arsenal 1 Hull 2. Wenger can say anything he wants. Greater possession does not translate into goals. A superb goalie can stop the gunners n their tracks.

Do you even watch Arsenal these days? Since losing Nasri and Fabregas we’ve barely ever tried to pass it around in the box and walk it through the goal… Infact since they went we’ve played pretty averagely, in fact the only guys that seem to be playing the arsenal style are Song and van Persie.

1 -1 score draw I think although Swansea could sneak it. Henry had the surprise effect on monday so I think they will have a plan to cope with his old legs. Maybe with him and VP together it could work for the Arse.

i must conclude most of u haven’t seen swansea play. if u had, u’d be very cautious with ur predictions. if we played half the way they do, and u’ve got rvp up there, we’d have been clear at the top.
