[Video] Ivory Coast Lose On Penalties As Gervinho & Drogba Miss Spot Kicks

By  Published: 12th February 2012

Zambia pulled off a sensational shock in the final of the African Cup of Nations, beating pre-tournament favourites Ivory Coast 8-7 on penalties.

It was a night to forget for the Elephants Premier League contingent, with three players failing to convert from 12-yards. Chelsea striker Didier Drogba missed the chance to win the Cup in normal time, blazing a second half penalty high over the bar and the game finished 0-0 after extra time to send the match to penalties.

Drogba went some way to making up for his earlier miss by scoring in the shoot out but Man City’s Kolo Toure then saw his effort saved before Arsenal winger Gervinho missing the vital spot kick to give Zambia the chance to win it. Stophira Sunzu held his nerve to win the Cup for Zambia. Watch the highlights here:
