[Player Ratings] Stoke 1-1 Arsenal: Booing Ramsey? Really?

By on April 28, 2012

Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw by a typically well-organised Stoke City side at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday.

Unsurprisingly the home side were right up for this game. Tony Pulis loves nothing more than getting one over his old foe Arsene Wenger.

Yossi Benayoun and Robin van Persie both went close before the inevitable happened, an Etherington cross found Crouch who headed home his token goal against the Gunners. Both Vermaelen and Gibbs challenged the giant striker, but neither could get near him.

We responded well and after great work by Rosicky his pin-point cross found Van Persie who tapped home his 28th league goal of the season for 1-1. After that we were by far the better side and despite creating a few openings, we couldn’t find the winner.

The so-called ‘best fans in the league’ may be loud but they showed just how classy they are by booing Aaron Ramsey’s every touch early on. They should be ashamed of themselves, and the commentators of the stream i was watching didn’t have the balls to mention it. Let’s see if MOTD will, but i’m not holding my breath. The Stoke fans also rounded off their shameful afternoon by abusing Wenger late on. Just like their manager, their fans are truly vile creatures.

It finished 1-1 and it’s a decent point given how strong Stoke are at home and our poor recent record there. Here are my ratings from the game.

Arsenal ratings

Szczesny – 7 – Could do nothing about the goal but commanded his area well when Stoke bombarded the box with set pieces. Made a smart save from a powerful Jerome effort.

Sagna – 7 – Gave Etherington too much space to cross for the opener, but his own superb cross almost lead to an RVP winner in the second half. Important goal-line clearance late on.

Vermaelen – 7 – Beaten by Crouch for the goal, but who wouldn’t be? Did well to contain the awkward striker for the rest of the game. A thunderous late shot was blocked by the hands of Shawcross right on the edge of the area but nothing was given.

Koscielny – 7.5 – Was excellent again today. Intercepted and read the game well throughout. Didn’t shy away from the physical aspect of the game.

Gibbs – 6.5 – Dealt reasonably well with Pennant but disappointing crosses at the other end. Had a could of good opportunities to put balls in the box but failed to beat the first man.

Song – 6.5 – Seemed to be holding his position in front of the back four more than usual and this affected our attacking play, but made us more solid at the back.

Ramsey – 6.5 – Did the simple things ok but struggled to get into the game. However, he did well amidst the shocking booing from the home ‘support’. Subbed.

Rosicky – 7 – Superb assist for RVP’s goal and also set the Dutchman up with another great cross early on. Tired a little in the second half and lost the ball a few times as a result.

Gervinho – 6.5 – Started well and saw a lot of the ball early on. Was better in possession than in previous weeks but still lacked that final ball, and his shooting was terrible.

Benayoun – 7 – Worked hard and combined well with Rosicky at times, but kept hold of the ball too long on occasion. Should have done better with an early chance. Also failed to pull the trigger when given the chance in the box during the second half. Was unlucky not to get a second half penalty when pushed to the ground in the box. Subbed.

Van Persie – 7 – Another goal, went close with a first half header that was well saved and set up Benayoun with a lovely through ball. Also went close with a second half header and he held the ball up well, despite the rough treatment from the Stoke defence. Could have done better with a couple of free kicks in dangerous positions though.

SUBS:

Diaby – 6 – Didn’t really have an effect on the game to be honest.

Chamakh – 6.5 – Did surprisingly well during his 10 minute cameo. Held the ball up well and won a couple of headers.

Santos – N/A – Too late to make an impact.

Watch highlights of Stoke 1-1 Arsenal

So another game out the way and no real damage done. Newcastle’s loss means third is still in our hands as the Geordies are four points behind with only one game in hand, and an extremely tough last three fixtures. Spurs are now seven points back with two games in hand. So victories over Norwich and WBA secure third place and automatic Champions League qualification for us. COYG!

I agree, the Stoke fans are an absolute disgrace to football. They do their club no favours at all. I remember that terrible day when Shawcross broke Ramsey’s leg and the morons chanting ‘He’s only got one leg’ as he was being stretchered off.
I wish Stoke nothing but ill will.

Ramsey is becoming the natural successor to Denilson in the twisted minds of those so-called supporters of Arsenal FC.
It seems the creeps simply HAVE to have someone to abuse. To satisfy their need for a scapegoat.
We could well do without their presence at our matches.

Rosicky should get at least a 9.0! He runs up front and comes back on time to provide a shield for the back four. Creatively and single handedly created the only goal that pulled us level and as for the heartless stoke fans, I wish them all strokes! Nonsense!

Don’t blame Stoke’s fans.. It is teh result of media who at the time of Ramsey insident portrayed it as if the vitim was stoke player. This meida is insult to true football fans.

That’s no excuse. What did Ramsey do, even in the media’s portrayal?
I can understand more their attacks on Wenger, because they mirepresented Wenger’s comments following the game where Ramsey broke his leg (acting as though Wenger attacked Shawcross, when in fact he said the challenge was unacceptable), but even then, the chanting directed at our manager was similarly foul. According to Talksport, at least, they were chanting “French twat” before the game, and it sounded to me something like “Arsene Wenger is a wanker” during it.
I have nothing particular against Stoke or Pulis, but the way their fans were acting today was absolutely disgusting.

The media wasn’t booing the victim of the tackle with the broken leg. The Stoke fans were. You must be one of them.

Talk of Aaron’s performance, I think its much better than the others and considering the fact that he was being booed where his career was almost brought to an end by Ryan Shawcross’s horrific tackle. Ramsey is and will always be a potential! But not just opposition fans boo him, suprisingly, even some Arsenal fans do same. Its pathetic! Before the horrible tackle that saw him off the pitch for long, who will say the name ‘RAMBO’ isn’t in the fans dictionary? Aaron is a victim of circumstance but he has the chance to take his place before he was injured. TRUELY A GUNNER FOR LIFE

Shame on stoke fans…they showed how heartless and barbaric they are today!…Booing Ramsey was just too much…they played outdated pattern of football, their fans also behaved as if they have all lost their heart…atleast a point is better than nothing. we only need to improve more for the next match against Norwich team that was hammered at home by liverpool today..keep the focus and treat Norwich game as cup final….we are almost there.

The only good thing about stoke fans is the fact they booed Ramsy !!
    Cos he deserves it.
Such shameful quality every week destroying arsenal in every week.
A disgustingly bad player with no skills.
Ramsy and other players of similar quality and our dumb fans that support them are the reasons we will never be a great club again.
Unless Wenger leaves and a manager with real balls comes in, sells the over rated crap we have and builds a real team !!

Arsenal fans have been booing Ramsy every week for the useless quality he shows and the slow play he provides.
Stoke fans can boo who they like !
We boo and hate spurs, Chelsea and united. We hate Liverpool.
We hate everyone yet demand other fans respect us ?
They broke his leg? So what. It happens to the best players on earth. He ain’t near the best.
He’s crap. Before and after that injury.
And we are paying the price.

Ramsy is more damage to arsenal than a few stoke fans showing passion.
Grow up arsenal fans and solve the issues within before crying like kids !!

5th richest club. 7 years dry ! Selling the best. Buying the worst. High wages. Over rated crap players. Arrogant stubborn manager. Same tactics and formation. Late subs. Greedy board. High ticket prices. Oh. And Ramsy.
    We have enough crap.

    Wake up you babies !!!!!

Meaner says… Some games are fixed. Tony Pulvis had deliberately lost his game to Castle last week, as this result will not cost Stoke. Both these managers are anti-wenger, and both are english. Luckily Wigan’s Manager is a spanish, and beat Castle 4-0. Well done.

Infact Stoke are my most hatred team, way above the rest. Tony Pulvis is the master of cunt, including his fans.

don’t know why wenger has not realised that Ramsy is not informm and has given us attacking and Defensiive problems. He doesn’t give balance in midfield. His passes are never a threat and easily looses the ball.Ramsey has been ordinary.

Stupid and classless stoke fan masquerading as an arsenal fan. Only idiotic stoke fans are on your side. Absolute disgrace and reflects on your parents

Song played very well, discipline and protecting the back line. IMO, man of the match.
Overall altough its a draw, Arsenal played well especiaaly against thesevtype of opponents. They have learnt to cope and be agreesive themselves. Cannot be bullied anymore, especially with Van Persie and Vermallen. They showed both leadership and agressivessness, ever ready to launch themselves when teammates got hurt.
Stoke fans are a bunch of animals. Their disgusting behavior show their lack of upbringing. Wonder what they tell their children back home, there again their parents taught them well and they will continue to further their classless behavior.

Although in the past I have criticize Arsenal, the bpard for being stingy and not paying for the right players and in the end other clubs have stepped in to snatch away the players. We do have a few potential players. Ramsey used to be a good player with potential before he broke his legs and has since put in decent and yet sometimes inconsistent performances.

As a fan, booing him is really too much, mentally and physically he has still yet to reach the form he got in the past. He is still young and give him abit of time. If Arsenal has not got any trophies for 7 damn years , why not give some time for Ramsey to gain back the confidence. Arsenal needs backup players to fill in the depth. I am sure Ramsey will be able to fill in the spot.

Again Ramsey starts and Arsenal dont win. The only game we’ve won recently when he has started was the Wolves game, where we played against 10 men for 80mins.

(Article written by bottom lover, sorry Arsenal fan number 1)

Were you there you odious little turd? No, I’m guessing not, because if you were, you’d know that Stoke fans DIDN’T boo Ramsey from the kick off. We actually clapped Ramsey at one point in the first half then the Arsenal fans started chanting “you know what you are, you know what you are, Ryan Shawcross, you know what you are”. Get your head out your arse you posh boy. Hypocrisy is for idiots like you, who watch football on match of the day rather than at the ground.

      April 29, 2012 at 4:06 pm

Bit of a difference though don’t you think? Shawcross DID the leg breaking, Ramsey was the VICTIM.

Lets not forget he has done this before Shawcross….

To boo a player who had his leg broken is sick.

I have to ask. Do you actually watch these games?
Gervinio was poor at best. He managed to get in some nice positions but then spoiled it by taking a touch too many. Very poor.
He is also our laziest player. Watch their goal and see where he is in relation to Sagna.
Sagna folows his man into the area and Gervinio is strolling about near the halfway line while Etherinton has acres of space to cross. He was no help to Sagna at all.
    Denilson the second.

As a Stoke fan I find the Ramsey chants deplorable. Given the equally despicable nature of your “it should have been you” bile aimed at Adebayor are any of you prepared to agree that it is football problem and not one made solely in Stoke on Trent?
