Liverpool risk missing out on Clint Dempsey but are closing in on the signing of Joe Allen, according to the Mirror.

Dempsey has been widely expected to leave Craven Cottage this summer and was left out behind as Fulham traveled to Switzerland for a pre-season training camp in order to push through a move away from the club.

Liverpool have been tracking the American forward all summer but have so far refused to meet the £10m fee Fulham are demanding. This hesitation has alerted Serie A side Roma, who are believed to be ready to meet the Cottagers valuation.

New Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to land the 29-year-old and Dempsey is understood to favour staying in the Premier League, but has not ruled out a move abroad if he doesn’t secure a move to Anfield.

The Mirror claim that Roma manager and former England assistant-manager Franco Baldini is a huge fan of Dempsey and will look to use his contacts at Fulham to negotiate a deal.

There is better news for Liverpool fans though as it looks like Joe Allen will finally seal his move to Merseyside after FSG agreed to sanction a £15m move for Swansea midfielder Joe Allen.

Rodgers has been desperate to sign Allen from his former side since taking the hot-seat at Anfield but has so far been unable to agree a deal after seeing a £12.5m offer rejected by the Welsh side.

However, the owners are now prepared to pay the £15m that will automatically trigger the players release clause, with Allen now free to complete the move after seeing his participation in the Olympics ended on Saturday night when Team GB crashed out to South Korea on penalties.

I agree with you. With all due respect to BR, none of the players that he has been pursuing are really top class. Joe Allen, Borini etc may be star at Swansea, they look frankly ordinary at the level , wants to be in 2012-13. I hope that BR will not put a higher price tag of player’s personal loyalty to him over the interest of LFC. While I do agree that Andy Carroll could not live the expectation of £35 M price tag, but as long as he is fit, he is much more impactful player than what BR is looking at £10-15 m. Honestly, I donot believe that LFC was willing to allow Andy for a loan fee of £ 2 M, just because Andy Carroll may not be suitable for his style. I think that BR’s game plan will get significant benefit with Andy Carroll as he will provide variety for LFC and unpredictability for the opposition which even Barcelona does not have. If LFC struggle to penetrate through BR’s style against strong defensive teams like Chelsea under Roberto de Mattei, Andy can provide the killer punch. I hope that John Henry and BR will give a second thought.

Not going to happen is it? We are truly being shown as being a has-been club. Nobody but ageing , middle-talented players are even willing to talk to LFC let alone sign for them. FSG has really closed the lid on the money and is now relying on LFC to become a feeder/selling club for others. The mighty truly have fallen. Under FSG and the Americans we will NEVER see CL again however long they say it will be and as for the new stadium???????…forget it!

Liverpool need Dempsey irrespective of other players Rodgers may sign. He knows what is required in the EPL. Forget about his age and pay the price to get him and stop dithering. Goals, goals and more goals is what he provides. Nothing fancy about this American he just does the business. Don’t want our club to become Swanpool!

I think we realy do need dampsey.take a good look at him,he played well in d world cup and that means he’s not jst making it at fulham.he’s got the spirit, strength, dribbling, agility and most of all he scored 17 goals last season and he’s not injury prone .so why not go for him?

with the way things are going i wont be surprise we loosing out on Gatson Ramirez because Rodgers is after his former club swansea players instead of bringing in quality players,i heard that 30mill.have been given to Rodgers but uptill now only Borini he has signed,i believe having Clint Dempsey could have help us a lot but Rodgers is now playing same Dalglish card in transfer market.

Just hoping a lot of deals happen this week. Imagine Arsenal and their transfers? Its unlike LFC. Please BR complete the deals in time the olympics is over for our targets. Get Allen, Ramirez, Dempsey and Vargas if possible. Then, loan or ship out those who wouldn’t get playing time. Though we are back in Europe and we’ll need numbers. Time’s ticking… Come on, LFC!!! YNWA

BR is useless wen it comes to buying quality players that wil push 4a top4.He only knows abt former players. If he doesnt sign G.Ramiers, Lfc will be as useless as BR.

If Liverpool is Smart and they are NOT.. they would beg borrow and steal to the Yank ( dempsey) . He has scored more goals then any one on the Reds. He Stronger & TOUGHER than any one on the Reds. I hope he stays at Fulham and they have the greatest year in their history. He can play out his contract and then move on Bungsliga.
