Ajax playmaker Christian Eriksen is ‘likely’ to join either Tottenham or Liverpool this summer with the player understood to be keen on a move to the Premier League, according to the Independent.

The report claims the Danish international is set to leave Holland after refusing to sign a new contract at Ajax, and with his current deal set to expire in 2014 the Dutch outfit have apparently decided to cash in at the end of the season instead of losing him for nothing the following year.

A ‘source’ from inside of Ajax is quoted by the Independent as saying that Eriksen wants to play in England and with long-term admirers Arsenal and Manchester United ending their interest, it’s left Tottenham and Liverpool to battle it out for his signature with the duo said to be scouting the 21-year-old ‘almost every week’:

“Christian wants to play in the Premier League and we think he will do well there. The club had discussed the option of keeping him until the end of his contract but it makes sense now to sell.

“Liverpool and Spurs are scouting him almost every week. Arsenal are no longer interested and Man United are not on the scene. The club will not let him go cheaply so there is a long way to go but it seems likely he will move to Tottenham or Liverpool.” A source is quoted as saying by the Independent

Ajax are just two points of league leaders PSV Eindhoven as they look to secure their third consecutive Eredivisie title and Eriksen has been key in their ambitions this season, scoring six goals in his 24 league games so far as well as laying on a hat-full of assists.

The newspaper suggests that Ajax will demand around £14m for Eriksen’s services but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is said to be confident of bringing to the price down to nearer £8m given he will only have one-year remaining on his contract, while they are also hoping to use Jan Vertonghen’s relationship with the player to try and lure him to White Hart Lane over Anfield.
