Predicted Tottenham Starting XI To Play Hull City In League Cup Clash

By on October 29, 2013

Tottenham Hotspur take on Hull City at White Hart Lane for the second time in four days in the Capital One Cup fourth round on Wednesday night.

The two sides met on Sunday with Spurs running out 1-0 winners thanks to a controversial late penalty that was converted by Roberto Soldado, so Hull will be out for revenge tomorrow.

Andre Villas-Boas is expected to shuffle his pack for the game and gives several first team players a well-earned rest with the likes of Michael Dawson, Mousa Dembele, Andros Townsend and Roberto Soldado all expected to be given a breather.

Kyle Naughton is expected to fill in at left-back with Danny Rose still recovering from a toe injury while Mousa Dembele  could be recalled in place of Sandro after the Brazilian started three games in a week.

Summer signings Erik Lamela, Christian Eriksen and Nacer Chadli are all expected to feature while Jermaine Defoe should spearhead the attack.

Here’s the team AVB may go with:

What do you think our our team? What would your line-up be?

    I would play:-
    Lloris/ Friedel
    Naughton Kaboul Chiriches HOLTBY [he’s got to be better than Naughton on the left}
    Capoue
    Lamela Eriksen Chadli
    Defoe Kane or Sigurdsson

why not! Left footed, bright and knows the team – as long as he doesn’t go walkabout!!

Interesting that Sybrian is floating this idea!!!

It shows how badly we needed LB cover in the summer, I feel it’s a shame after all the good work the management team did in the summer that we couldnt quite get Contreao. (I thik he was probably one of our BIGGEST targets)

The up-shot of missing out on another recognised LB is that we must rely on Rose as Fryers isn’t quite ready to step up to prem level yet, which means when Rose is out we have a real ssue of finding balance on the left flank.

This is of course due to the way AVB wants to play where the FB’s are so vital in providing the necessary width to allow our Wgr’s to cut in so much.

This is why it’s such a horror-show when Naughton plays there as Naughton just cannot do this effectively on his weaker foot. The only possible solution to this, is to ‘jig’ the shape a tad, and play a lefty on the wing,.. Enter Holtby?!?! – Or even Townsend,.. Of course, the other option is to bring back BAE but that dont look like happening.

(On a side note, unfortunately for Jan, our best back 4 is probably:
    Jan/Chiriches/Kaboom/Walker, obviously excluding fitness issues)

Anyway, enoug rubbish from me,. I think I would play: (I’m not gonna attempt to guess what AVB would play!)

    Friedel
    Fryers
    Vertonghen
    Chiriches
    Naughton

    Dembele
    Holtby
    Chadli

    Siggurdson
    Lamela
    Adebeyor

    BENCH:
    Dawson
    Kane
    Eriksen
    Lennon
    Defoe

    INJURED:
    Kaboom
    Rose
    Capoue

    RESTED:
    Soldado
    Paulinhio
(I would love to put Vertonghen in here for a rest too, but that would mean slipping a young CB in, which for me would mean Dawson should start, but I think Chirches is in need of more game time as hes started to settle, and in honesty, I just dont know of any CB’s coming through as I’m a bit out of touch with the U21’s!)
