Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has offered a positive injury update on Theo Walcott with the winger looking set to return to action towards the end of August.

Walcott was cruelly ruled out for the entire second half of last season and subsequently the World Cup finals after damaging his cruciate ligament in his knee during the closing stages of our FA Cup win over Tottenham last January.

His recovery program has been going well and he shared photos of himself back in the gym last month before Jack Wilshere shared a snap with his team mates this week suggesting he was back on the training pitch – although it’s not thought Walcott is doing any serious ball work or heavy running just yet.

However, Arsene Wenger has given Arsenal.com a positive update on the 25-year-old’s recovery today claiming that the attacker is progressing well and should be back in full training by the end of August, and the boss believes it won’t be long after he’s back in training before he’ll be able to call upon Walcott for first team duties.

He told the clubs website:

on Theo Walcott…

He’s progressing very well. He’s worked very hard during the summer and we expect him to be back in full training at the end of August.

on how long it will take for Walcott to get back in the team…

That’s difficult to predict. Once he’s back in full training it can be very quick. He has a good basis, which is what he’s working on now.

If all goes according to plan over the next few weeks it looks as though Theo will be available in early September, which is bang on schedule for the nine months he was diagnosed back in January.

It’s going to be a major boost to have him back available again as there’s little doubt we badly missed him during the course of last season. I still believe had we kept Theo and Ramsey fit, we’d have gone on to win the league, but unfortunately we’ll never know.

Hopefully Walcott will have more luck with injuries this season as him alongside Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez is a mouthwatering prospect.
