Arsenal and Liverpool found out when the FA Cup semi finals will be held today, but the Gunners Saturday game is set to clash with Chelsea vs Man Utd….
The Football Association confirmed the dates for the upcoming FA Cup semi finals this afternoon.
Liverpool face a replay against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park next month in order to book their place in the last four after the pair drew 0-0 at Anfield two weeks ago.
Aston Villa await the victors after they beat West Bromwich Albion in the quarter finals and the Villains will play either Liverpool or Blackburn on Sunday April 19th. The match at Wembley will be broadcast live on BT Sport and will kick off at 3pm.
Current holders Arsenal booked their place in the last four once again after beating Manchester United 2-1 at Old Trafford last Monday night.
The North Londoners will take on Reading after they beat Bradford 3-0 in their replay this week and the two clubs will now face-off at Wembley on Saturday April 18th. The game will be shown live on BBC One, kicking off at 5.20pm.
However, the decision of the BBC to schedule the game as an evening kick off means that the Gunners FA Cup semi final will clash with Chelsea’s huge Premier League game against Manchester United.
The Blues host United at Stamford Bridge on the same day with the game being shown live on Sky Sports, kicking off at 5.30pm – just 10 minutes after Arsenal v Reading.
It leaves neutrals in a tricky situation as to which game to watch and you have to question why the BBC would choose to play Arsenal’s FA Cup clash at the same time as such a high profile league game.
Maybe it’s just bad luck that the two games collide but surely an earlier kick off at Wembley would have made much more sense for football-loving fans, as well as the broadcasters, as they are both certain to miss out on huge viewers numbers.
