Wenger To Battle Chelsea For World Class Star As 3 Attackers Could Leave Arsenal
Arsenal are ready to go head-to-head with Chelsea over the signing of Marco Reus this summer as doubts continue over the future of Theo Walcott.
The January transfer window is now closed but that won’t stop the newspapers from speculating ahead of the summer so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Arsenal are linked with Marco Reus….
Arsenal are ready to go head-to-head with Chelsea over the signing of Marco Reus this summer as doubts continue over the future of Theo Walcott, according to the Telegraph.
Walcott is about to enter the final year of his contract and he plunged his future into further doubt on Thursday after taking to Twitter to claim that talks over an extension still haven’t even begun.
The winger was also forced to hit-back at reports suggesting he was involved in a training ground bust up with boss Arsene Wenger last week. In response to those rumours, Walcott tweeted:
‘I don’t normally comment on false stories about myself but reports about contract demands and bust-ups with the boss are complete nonsense.
‘There have been no contract talks as yet and my current focus is not on contracts but on doing my best for Arsenal FC.’
Walcott has struggled to regain his first team place since returning from injury in January and his lack of action is certainly not going to help when negotiations over an extension do eventfully start.
Understandably, the 26-year-old is now being linked with a move away from the Emirates this summer and reports suggest that Lukas Podolski and Joel Campbell could join him with both players needing to leave in search of regular first team football.
With up to three attackers in danger of leaving Arsenal this summer Arsene Wenger is going to need reinforcements and the Telegraph claim that the Frenchman has now identified Marco Reus as a key target.
Reus has long been linked with a move to Arsenal and they were understood to be keen last summer before a serious ankle injury ruled out any chance of a move away from Borussia Dortmund.
But it appears with Walcott’s future uncertain, Wenger is now ready to renew his interest although the newspaper suggests that Chelsea are also interested and could provide some stiff competition for his signature.
Reus is one of the best attackers in European football and with 53 goals and 45 assists in just 116 appearances for Dortmund, he’d certainly provide a real threat in the final third if he was to move to either Arsenal or Chelsea next season.
However, signing the 25-year-old isn’t going to be easy as he only penned a new four-and-a-half year contract in January and Dortmund will do all they can to keep hold of their star man.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have recovered from a dreadful first half of the season which saw them sitting bottom of the Bundesliga table at one point, but they’re still 10th and look highly unlikely to qualify for the Champions League next season.
So perhaps Reus could be persuaded to leave the Westfalonstadion this summer but it would require a substantial fee to force Dortmund into a sale.
We’ll have to wait and see whether Arsenal or Chelsea can strike a deal if they make their interest official, but Reus would be a sensational signing if either club could pull it off.
