Blues Team News: Costa Could Return vs Arsenal, Remy Likely To Face Man Utd
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Loic Remy should face Manchester United while Diego Costa could be back to take on Arsenal next week.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has given his team news and injury update ahead of tomorrow evening’s clash with Manchester United….
Chelsea will look to take a huge step towards winning the Premier League title when they take on Manchester United at Stamford Bridge tomorrow night.
Ahead of the game, Jose Mourinho has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s given reporters a team news and injury update.
The Blues boss confirmed that Loic Remy has a better than 50 per cent chance of returning to the squad on Saturday after missing last weekend’s win over Queens Park Rangers with a minor muscular injury that he picked up in training.
When asked for an update on Remy’s situation, Mourinho told ESPN reporters:
“He has a chance”
Then, when asked it that chance was better than 50:50, the Portuguese coach simply said:
“Yes.”
Remy’s availability will be a welcome boost as Chelsea looked a little short of options in attack last week with Didier Drogba their only fit senior striker to choose from.
Diego Costa will miss the United game on Saturday but Mourinho did reveal some positive news with the Spaniard due back in training earlier than expected.
Costa was sidelined with a recurrence of a hamstring injury that he suffered against Stoke earlier this month and he was initially expected to miss at least four weeks.
However, Mourinho claims the 26-year-old will resume full training next week and has a chance to be back in contention to face Arsenal at the Emirates next weekend.
The Chelsea boss continued:
“Diego is progressing very well, I think he has a chance for the next weekend. Our target was for him to play the last four matches.”
“Arsenal is the sixth from the end, so if he doesn’t play against Arsenal or Leicester [on April 29], it is not a problem because we were always focusing on the last four.”
“But things are going so well he has a chance [to face Arsenal]. He’s training, he starts training with the rest of the squad next week.”
It would be a huge bonus for Chelsea if Costa was fit to face the Gunners as North Londoners are currently the Blues closest rivals in the table, so no doubt Mourinho would love to be able to call upon his top scorer for the trip to the Emirates.
Chelsea will look to take advantage of Arsenal playing in the FA Cup this weekend by opening up a 10-point lead with victory over United tomorrow, which would put them within touching distance of the title.
