Arsenal Plotting Move For €28m-Rated Ligue 1 Powerhouse
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is ready to renew his interest in Monaco ace Geoffrey Kondogbia this summer as he looks to add more steel to his midfield.
As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Arsenal are ready to renew their interest in Geoffrey Kondogbia….
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is ready to renew his interest in Monaco midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia this summer, according to reports.
We were strongly linked with a move for Kondogbia when he left Sevilla back in the summer of 2013 but missed out after he completed a £17m switch to Monaco.
The 22-year-old has developed into one of the most highly-rated midfield talents in Europe over the past two seasons after putting in some impressive displays in the middle of the park for Leonardo Jarim’s side.
Arsenal found out first hand how good a player he is after he opened the scoring for Monaco during their 3-1 win at the Emirates in the Champions League in February and Kondogbia was voted man of the match after an all-action performance.
It seems the boss is ready to renew his interest as the Metro are citing reports coming from French outlet L’Equipe which claim that Arsene is lining-up a move to finally bring the French international to the Emirates this summer.
The newspaper suggests that we are leading the race for his signature but will face stiff competition as the likes of Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Valencia are also believed to be keeping a close eye on the player.
With Mikel Arteta and Abou Diaby both out of contract this summer and Mathieu Flamini also tipped to leave, I think it’s safe to say Wenger will bring in a defensive-minded midfielder this summer.
Many names have been linked but few are as exciting a prospect as Kondogbia so I’d love to see the player come to the club. Francis Coquelin has been outstanding in recent months but we need depth in the holding role department and Kondogbia would be ideal.
It remains to be seen whether we can get a deal agreed but Monaco aren’t the financial powerhouses they were a few years ago and the Metro suggest they would consider selling for around €28m (£20m).

If that’s accurate, then I think it would be a sensational deal and we should try to get a transfer sealed as soon as possible. Even if we had to pay over €30m, that would still represent excellent value in today’s market.
