Arsenal Boss Confirms Injured Attacker Will Be Fit To Face Man Utd
Arsenal have been handed a boost with Arsene Wenger confirming that Danny Welbeck will be fit to face former side Manchester United in two weeks time.
Arsenal have been handed a boost with Arsene Wenger confirming that Danny Welbeck will be fit to face former side Manchester United in two weeks time.
Welbeck missed Monday night’s impressive 3-1 victory over Hull City at the KC Stadium after suffering a knee injury in training.
The good news for Arsenal fans is that Wenger has played down the seriousness of the problem after telling reporters that the 24-year-old is in with a chance of facing Swansea City at the Emirates next Monday night.
However, even if Welbeck is still not fit enough to take on the Swans, the Gunners boss is confident he’ll be available for the trip to Old Trafford the following week.
Wenger told reporters:
“There’s an inflammation in his knee – it doesn’t look very bad but he isn’t available for selection.
When asked whether he’ll be back before the end of the season, Wenger replied:
“Yes, I think so. I think maybe next Monday against Swansea, if not the game after (against United).”
It will be a big boost for Wenger to have Welbeck available for what is going to be a crucial game in the race for second spot in the Premier League table.
The Gunners are currently joint second and five points clear of United with a game in hand so Louis van Gaal’s men are going to have to claim the three points when the two sides meet next Sunday if they want to stand any chance of finishing second or even third this season.
However, the Gunners beat United 2-1 at Old Trafford in their FA Cup quarter final clash last month with Welbeck scoring the winner, and I’m sure he’d love to get another one over his former side when they meet later this month.
