Man Utd Submit Improved £42m Offer, Player Adamant He Wants To Join
Manchester United have tabled a final £42m offer for Sergio Ramos and the defender remains intent on pushing through the move to Old Trafford.
With the summer transfer window finally open for business, managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads ahead of next season so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Man Utd step-up their pursuit of Sergio Ramos….
Manchester United have tabled a final £42m offer for Sergio Ramos and the defender remains intent on pushing through the move to Old Trafford, according to the Express.
Ramos-to-United has become one of the transfer sagas of the summer so far with the defender’s future at the Bernabeu in doubt after contract extension talks stalled earlier in the summer.
Madrid are struggling to match the 29-year-old demands and it’s led to speculation over a move to Old Trafford with Sky Sports News reporting at the end of June that United had tabled an opening £28.6m bid and Ramos had supposedly informed Madrid he wanted to leave.
That initial offer was rejected and Spanish outlet AS reported yesterday that United had reopened negotiations with the European giants, and the Red Devils were understood to have seen a second offer worth £32m knocked back.
It appears United have now had one last go as the Express are citing reports coming from AS today that claim United have submitted a final take it or leave it £42m offer before threatening to turn their attention to other targets.
The newspaper suggests that despite Madrid’s attempts to smooth things over, which include handing him the captaincy, the defender is adamant he wants to leave and push through a move to Old Trafford.
The problem for United is that Madrid are under no immediate pressure to sell as Ramos still has two years left on his current deal and the Express claim they are still demanding £62m to cash-in this summer.
I’m surprised enough that United are willing to pay above £40m for Ramos but I’d be majorly stunned if they agreed to pay £62m for a 29-year-old defender, so unless Madrid lower their demands I don’t see a deal happening.

The only other solution would be for Ramos to go on strike to force a move but I don’t think he’ll be prepared to do that and ruin his relationship with the club and fans that have adored him for the last 10 years.
Obviously Ramos is a world class defender and would be an excellent signing for United, but I personally don’t think any deal will come to fruition this summer so Louis van Gaal will have to move on to other targets sooner or later if he wants to bring in a centre-back before the season starts.
