Man Utd Close-In On 5th Summer Signing With Player Due To Arrive For Medical
Man Utd are closing-in on their fifth signing of the summer with goalkeeper Sergio Romero due to arrive to undergo his medical ahead of a free transfer move
With the summer transfer window finally open for business, managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads ahead of next season so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Man Utd close-in on Sergio Romero….
Manchester United are closing-in on their fifth major signing of the summer with goalkeeper Sergio Romero due to arrive to undergo his medical ahead of a free transfer move, according to the Express.
United have been linked with a number of goalkeepers this summer with many assuming Louis van Gaal was on the look-out for a potential replacement for David De Gea.
However, with the Spaniard no nearer to completing his proposed move to Real Madrid, it’s now become clear that van Gaal may actually have been eyeing competition for De Gea after the Dutch boss confirmed Victor Valdes is set to be sold after refusing to play for the reserves.
Sergio Romero has emerged as a prime target in recent weeks and it looks like United are now closing-in on his signature with the Express one of several media outlet reporting today that the 28-year-old is due to fly in to undergo a medical.
Romero is available on a free transfer after leaving Sampdoria when his contract expired last month and despite interest from a number of clubs throughout Europe, the Express suggest he’s opted for a move to Old Trafford.
van Gaal knows the Argentinean international well after working with the keeper at AZ Alkmaar and it appears it’s only a matter of time before the pair are reunited at Manchester United this summer.
If United can keep hold of De Gea, even if it’s just for the final year of his contract, and bring Romero in as back-up then they’ll have two excellent goalkeepers to choose from for the coming campaign.

Assuming De Gea was then to leave for Madrid in 12 months time, at least van Gaal will have an experienced keeper already at the club ready to step in to fill the No.1 shirt.
Romero has been consistently excellent for Sampdoria during his four years at the club and he’s got 62 caps for the Argentina senior team to his name, so I think he’ll prove to be a very astute piece of business from United if they can seal this deal.
