Barcelona Super-Star Confirms Man Utd Transfer Talks
Barcelona super-star Neymar has confirmed he held talks with Man Utd about a potential switch to Old Trafford but insists no formal offer was put on the table
With the summer transfer window now closed for business, it’s time to start looking at those deals that failed to get over the line and those which are being lined-up for the future. Today, Neymar confirms talks with Manchester United…
Barcelona super-star Neymar has confirmed he held talks with Manchester United about a potential switch to Old Trafford in the summer but insists no formal offer was put on the table, according to the Mirror.
United spent big again during the summer transfer window with Louis van Gaal splashing out on the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin, Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian and Anthony Martial.
The Red Devils were also linked with a number of other marquee names during the summer with the Daily Mail linking United with a sensational move for Neymar during the closing stages of the window.
Many dismissed those reports as nothing more than idle paper talk but the Brazilian super-star has now confirmed that he did have ‘conversations’ about a move to Old Trafford but insists no formal offer was ever put forward.
When quizzed about interest from United, Neymar is quoted as saying by the Mirror:
“We had conversations, but there was nothing concrete.”
“I heard that there were offers but none were made to me.”
So it appears van Gaal did try with an ambitious swoop for Neymar in the summer and obviously it would have been a major coup if the Dutch boss was able to lure him to Old Trafford.
The 23-year-old is one of the best players in world football and his signing would have made a real statement of intent that United were serious about getting themselves back among the very elite of European football after a difficult couple of years.
Any potential deal would have probably broken the world transfer record and United are one of the few clubs who have the financial muscle to pull off such a purchase.

However, it looks like United have missed their opportunity as the Mirror claim Neymar is now set to open talks with Barcelona over a new deal which could see his salary increase to around £200,000-a-week, so it appears he’s ready to commit his long-term future to the Nou Camp.
