Attacker Chose Dream Man Utd Move Despite Chelsea Offering More Than £36m
Anthony Martial snubbed Chelsea in favour of sealing a dream move to Old Trafford despite the Blues offering more than the £36m Man Utd paid for the attacker
With the summer transfer window now closed for business it’s time to start looking at those deals that failed to get over the line and those which are being lined-up for the future. Today, Chelsea were in for Anthony Martial….
Anthony Martial snubbed Chelsea in favour of sealing a ‘dream’ move to Old Trafford despite the Blues offering more than the £36m Manchester United ended up paying for the attacker, according to the Daily Mail.
Martial made his name during a two-year spell at AC Monaco between 2013 and 2015 and his potential attracted interest from some of Europe’s top clubs last summer.
United ended up winning the race for his signature after the Red Devils agreed a deal with the Ligue 1 outfit on deadline day that will see them pay an initial £36m, but it could rise to as much as £58m depending on various performance-related stipulations in his contract.
It appears the 19-year-old could have ended up at Stamford Bridge as the Daily Mail are citing reports coming out of France that claim Chelsea actually offered more than the £36m United put on the table.
However, the newspaper suggests that Martial snubbed the Premier League champions advances as he was supposedly determined to seal a ‘dream’ move to Old Trafford.
A Tweet from CanalPlus claimed:
‘According to our information, Chelsea had proposed more money than Manchester United for Anthony Martial but the player dreamed of the Red Devils.’
United will be pleased Martial opted to join them as he’s been an instant success at Old Trafford having scored four goals in his seven appearances so far and he’s impressed fans with his all-round performances.
It was a big risk from United to pay such a huge fee for a youngster who had only scored 13 competitive senior goals but it looks like he has the potential to become a real star player at the Red Devils over the coming years.

Chelsea could certainly have done with Martial so far this campaign as Jose Mourinho’s men have endured a disastrous start and currently sit 16th in the table, but they missed out and will now have to hope the likes of Diego Costa and Eden Hazard rediscover their form soon.
