Man Utd Star Closes In On Comeback After Offering Positive Injury Update

Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has offered an update on his recovery as he closes in on making his long-awaited comeback from a knee injury.
Schweinsteiger has been on the sidelines since suffering the knee injury during United’s FA Cup victory over Sheffield United at Old Trafford on January 9.
The German international was initially expected to return within a couple of weeks but the injury proved to be far worse than first thought after it emerged he’d suffered ligament damage.
However, it looks like the 31-year-old is on the comeback trail as he’s confirmed he should start to run again in five days time before stepping-up his rehabilitation further with some ball work five days after that.
Schweinsteiger therefore expects to be back in contention for a first team place at some point in March while he’s also moved to dismiss the idea that he could miss this summers European Championships in France.
The midfielder is quoted as saying by Sky Sports:
“Unless the European Championships is suddenly brought forward to the start of March, then it looks good,”
“A medial ligament tear takes time, but everything is healing well. I know my body, everything will be ok.
“In about five days, I’ll begin to start running again and five days after that I should be training with a ball again. I should be completely back on board in March.”
Schweinsteiger has already missed nine matches with the injury so I’m sure Louis van Gaal will be desperate to have the midfielder back available as soon as possible.
The Dutch coach usually insists his players come through two full weeks of first team training before they’ll be considered for selection so if the United boss sticks to this, we should see Schweinsteiger back in mid-to-late March.
