Man Utd Star To Demand Move If Jose Mourinho Is Appointed Manager This Summer

Wayne Rooney will demand to leave Manchester United if former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho replaces Louis van Gaal as manager this summer, according to the Daily Star.
Mourinho is favourite with many bookmakers to take over at Old Trafford if van Gaal is sacked at the end of the season with the Dutchman’s position coming under intense scrutiny in recent months.
United crashed out of the Europa League at the hands of bitter rivals Liverpool earlier this month while they currently sit sixth in the Premier League table and face a fight to qualify for the Champions League next season.
With van Gaal likely to be relieved of his duties this summer, Mourinho is being hotly tipped to replace the former Ajax coach after leaving Chelsea back in December but it appears the Portuguese’s arrival won’t go down well with United’s current skipper.
The Daily Star are citing a report coming out of Spain that claims Rooney is unhappy at the prospect of Mourinho coming to the club and will tell United’s top brass that he wants to leave should he be appointed as manager this summer.
The newspaper suggests that if Rooney does leave Old Trafford, his preference could be to remain in the Premier League but he’d also consider offers from MLS in the United States and from the Chinese Super League.
Rooney still has two years remaining on his current contract so United could force him to stay for at least another year if they really wanted to before cashing-in next summer when they’d still be able to command a sizable transfer fee for the striker.
However, if Mourinho does come in as boss and Rooney demands a move, I don’t see the former Chelsea manager standing in his way as he’s unlikely to want to keep hold of an unhappy player who doesn’t want to play under him.
It remains to be seen how much truth there is behind these reports but this could be an interesting story to keep an eye on as we head in to the summer months.
