Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has taken to Instagram to offer a positive injury update on his recovery from a double leg break.
Shaw has been on the sidelines for the majority of the season after suffering the horrific injury during United’s Champions League defeat at PSV Eindhoven back in September.
After putting in hard graft in the gym for several months, the 20-year-old stepped-up his rehabilitation by returning to the training pitch at the start of April to work individually with the clubs physios.
Shaw has now taken to Instagram to offer an update on how his recovery is going as the left-back posted a photo of him along with his team mates with a caption saying that his training is going ‘really well’.
“Training is going really well outside. Can’t wait to be back on the pitch with the team.”
Obviously United fans will be delighted to hear that the latest stage of Shaw’s rehabilitation is going well but he’s still got a few hurdles to overcome before Louis van Gaal will consider him fit and available for selection.
The youngster will hope to resume full first team training before the end of the month and he’ll then need to get some games under his belt in order to build up his match fitness. With the under-21 league finished, van Gaal could look to arrange some behind-closed-doors friendlies to give Shaw the opportunity of getting a few games.
As long as he came through them unscathed, then Shaw should be ready for first team action. However, the defender is facing a race against time to play any part in United’s remaining five Premier League games as the league finishes on May 15th.
Therefore, the only realistic chance of Shaw playing again this season could be in the FA Cup final on May 21st, should United manage to get past Everton in the semi-finals.
Here is what Shaw posted on Instagram last night:
