Wenger Risks Wrath Of Arsenal Fans As Frenchman Plots Surprise Swoop On Chelsea
Arsenal are plotting a surprise swoop on Chelsea for highly-rated forward Dominic Solanke as talks over a new contract continue to stall at Stamford Bridge
The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with a swoop on Chelsea….
Arsenal are plotting a surprise swoop on Chelsea for highly-rated forward Dominic Solanke as talks over a new contract continue to stall at Stamford Bridge, according to the Express.
Solanke has been with Chelsea his entire career having joined the club as a seven year old and is regarded as one of the most exciting young talents to have progressed through their youth system.
His impressive performances have helped Chelsea win two FA Youth Cups and the UEFA Youth League last season while he was named as the 2014 England Youth Player of the Year.
However, Solanke has failed to make the breakthrough in to the first team and after being named just once as a substitute last season, he was shipped out on loan to feeder club Vitesse Arnhem this term where he’s scored 7 goals in 22 Eredivisie appearances.
Chelsea remain keen to keep hold of the 18-year-old but the Mirror claim they are refusing to meet the strikers staggering £50,000-a-week wage demands, which is no surprise given he’s achieved little in the game to demand such incredible wages for a teenager.
The Blues are now facing up to the possibility of losing one of their most talented young players as Solanke has just one year remaining on his current contract and extension talks have now reached an impasse.
It appears the uncertainty has alerted Arsenal as the Mirror are citing a report from the Sun which claims that the Gunners are now plotting a swoop for the young forward and while they too have baulked at his wage demands, the North Londoner hope to lure him with the promise of more regular first team football.
Arsene Wenger is known for putting his faith in youth with Alex Iwobi the latest youngster to be given his chance in the first team and it looks as though Arsenal are hoping to use this reputation to lure Solanke to the Emirates.
While Solanke is certainly an exciting young talent, this news is likely to irritate some Arsenal fans as a growing number of supporters are demanding the club use their vast cash reserves to invest in top class players rather than relying on youth.
Arsenal have once again come up short in the title race with many calling for Wenger to sign a world class finisher to compliment the creative talents of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, and supporters have been praying Wenger would finally splash out this summer.

So while I’m sure Arsenal fans would welcome Solanke as an addition to their youth ranks or perhaps even as a fringe first team player, there is likely to be uproar in North London if the Chelsea teenager signs this summer with the promise of regular first team football.
